Biography

I am particularly interested in pinhole photography. I like the simplicity of the cameras and the etheriel effects possible with this type of photography. Many of my photographs are toned giving them increased archival stability and also imparting subtle colouration to the pictures.

A Civil Engineer by profession, I live in Northallerton, North Yorkshire and enjoy and specialise in pictorial landscape photography. Working exclusivly in monochrome and using mostly medium format cameras (including a pinhole and box brownie), a large shed in my garden serves as a darkroom.

My preferred subject is the English landscape with the Lake District, West Cornwall and North Yorkshire being favourite locations. Light quality is very important and I particularly favour fog, mist and the light of pre dawn. I enjoy making lith prints, cyanotypes and traditional silver gelatin prints.

Some of my photographs have been published in various books including the 'Best of Friends' series and have been exhibited at a number of venues.

I am also an Associate of the Royal Photographic Society and all my photographs are taken and printed on Ilford materials.
